Mary Jean Calaway

Mary Jean Calaway, 82, of Pocahontas, Arkansas was called to her eternal reward on Thursday, July 18, 2013. She was born on October 17, 1930 to the late Thomas B. and Jewel Marie Howerton Taylor in Corning, Arkansas. She was a lifelong Christian according to the Roman Catholic faith, a member of St. Andrews Catholic Parish in Marianna, Arkansas, St. Michael Catholic Parish in West Memphis, Arkansas, and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and a professed member of the St. Joan of Arc Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order. She was involved for many years in Parish Religious Education, Youth Ministry and other Works of Mercy. She graduated from Marianna High School in 1948 where she was valedictorian, played basketball and a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from and did graduate work at the College of Business Administration at Memphis State University. She was a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Arkansas Society of CPA’s. She was a bookkeeper and an accountant in Marianna and Marion, Arkansas until she retired and then she moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas to be closer to her son and grandchildren. Survivors include: one son: Dennis Calaway of Pocahontas, Arkansas; one brother: Thomas Taylor of Helena, Arkansas; four grandchildren: Sean Joseph Calaway, Katherine (Katie) Elizabeth Calaway, Bridget Marie Calaway, and Sarah Anne Calaway all of Jonesboro; and a host of other family and friends. Mrs. Calaway was preceded in death by; her parents: her husband of forty years: Carl Calaway Jr., one brother: William Richard Taylor; one sister: Dorothy Marie Webb. A Memorial Mass will be offered at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Arkansas. A family graveside service was held on July 20, 2013 at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Jonesboro, Arkansas under the direction of Faith Funeral Service. Honorary pallbearers: Knights of Columbus.
