James B. Thorpe

Rev. James Thorpe, age 61 of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away October 6, 2014 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Born November 4, 1952 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Floyd and Roberta Maxwell Thorpe and attended the Rock of NEA in Jonesboro. Rev. Thorpe was an ordained minister and former pastor for the past 30 years. He loved to study the Bible and teach Bible studies. He enjoyed fishing, fast sports cars and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife: Kim Thorpe of the home; mother: Roberta Fatula of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania; two sons: Aaron Thorpe and wife Carla of Texas City, Texas and Andrew Thorpe and wife Beka of Hendersonville, Tennessee; one daughter: Sarah Turbedsky and husband Matt of Concord, North Carolina; three sisters: Peggy Greenwood of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mary McFarland of Ohio and Trina Brandy of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; five grandsons: Carter Thorpe, Raegan Murray, Charlie Murray, Caeden Turbedsky and Greyson Turbedsky. Rev. Thorpe also leaves a host of other family and friends. Rev. Thorpe was preceded in death by his father: Mr. Floyd Thorpe; a sister: Bobbie Thorpe; and a nephew: Tyrone Thorpe. Funeral services will be 1:30pm Thursday, October 9, 2014 at The Rock of NEA in Jonesboro, Arkansas with Rev. Daniel Gilbert, Rev. Terry Watson, and Rev. Scot Loyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Sutton Cemetery in Pocahontas, Arkansas under the direction of Faith Funeral Service of Manila, Arkansas. The family will receive visitors Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 12:00pm until time of service at the church. Pallbearers will be Joe Pace, Mike Decker, Jim Hawks, Ryan Moore, Frank Klarer, Jerry Bowen, Stan Rogers, and Paul Turbedsky.

    I was shocked to find out that Jim had passed. Jimmie and I were boyhood friends growing up in Ellwood. I have a lot of great memories. My condolences is extended to his family.will miss him.
